The Substitute Teacher provides temporary instruction and classroom management in the absence of the regular teacher, supporting students aged 3 to 18 across various grade levels, including those with disabilities. This role involves adapting to different classroom settings, following established lesson plans, and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
Responsibilities: • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the regular teacher or school, adapting as necessary to meet the needs of students. • Engage with students ranging from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, including those with diverse learning needs and disabilities. • Manage classroom behavior, using positive reinforcement and school-established guidelines to ensure a safe, productive environment. • Assist students with disabilities, providing any necessary accommodations or modifications outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). • Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom culture that promotes learning and personal growth. • Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and, if required, parents or guardians. • Follow all school policies, procedures, and state guidelines to ensure the well-being and academic progress of students. • Supervise students in non-classroom settings, such as the lunchroom or playground, as needed. • Complete any required documentation, including attendance and behavior reports.
Qualifications: • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma; associate or bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred. • Experience: Experience working with children or youth in a structured setting; familiarity with special education or previous experience supporting students with disabilities is a plus. • Skills: Strong communication, adaptability, classroom management, and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with children of varying age groups and learning needs.
Physical Requirements: • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks as required by individual student needs. • Willingness to assist with physical or personal care needs for students with disabilities, as needed.
